how to look put-together when you feel like a mess

Have you ever woken up after snoozing your alarm like twelve times and decided that putting effort into your appearance today sounds like the worst thing ever? Of course you have, it happens to the best of us.

Even when I feel like I couldn’t care less about my appearance, I usually still want to make sure I didn’t look like I crawled out of a literal gutter. Here’s how I do it.

1. Brush your teeth. There’s nothing as messy as rolling up to class without having attended to your dental routine. (This includes flossing and mouthwash, ya nasties.) Sure, this step may not have anything to do with “looking” put-together, but it’s essential for your overall appearance and confidence.

2. Wearing some dainty jewelry always makes it look like you spent a little time in the morning on your appearance — even if you just never take it off, like me.

3. You probably don’t want to do your makeup. Even on a normal day, I have to force myself to put on some makeup when I wake up. If you can stand it, try to put on some mascara and concealer before you start your day. Mascara will give the illusion that your eyes are a little more open and awake than you probably feel. Only use concealer if you need to cover up any zits or eye bags, which let’s be honest: who doesn’t??

4. Throw on some leggings. They’re honestly the most comfortable clothing in the world and you can’t deprive yourself of that luxury on days such as these. Dress it up or dress it down — that’s up to you.

5. I have found that my trusty Stan Smiths will tie together any outfit that is otherwise trash. Any white sneaks will do, as long as they are relatively clean. Clean white shoes are the sign of a person who has their sh*t together.

6. Find some accessories that pull your outfit together, such as a scarf, scrunchie, or hat. Honestly, it doesn’t even have to look good together — just the presence of any accessory is enough to make you look a little less messy.

7. Hair. If you don’t feel like putting any effort into your look today, chances are you couldn’t care less about the state of your hair. Maybe the last time you washed your hair was four days ago, and that’s fine. Throw that ish into a messy bun, pony tail, or braid. Worst comes to worst, pop on a beanie and you’re good to go.

8. Wear a bralette. If you don’t feel like trying today, don’t wear a real bra!!!! Love ya self.

9. Smell good, feel good. Make sure to wear deodorant under whatever comfy clothes you’re wearing, and maybe even a spritz of perfume. After all, first impressions usually start with how someone smells.

10. Find a cute go-to jacket that you can throw over any outfit. For me, this is my I.AM.GIA Teddy Coat, because it is super trendy, warm, and works with basically any outfit ever. Even if I’m wearing sweatpants underneath, I feel like I’m a little bit ~chic~ all the time.

11. If all else fails, just make sure you have zero stains on your clothes.

lol the tip of dainty jewelry is literally me. I have had the same necklace on for the longest time so I look somewhat put together. Also, having white sneakers is key!!!!! I have one pair of white sk8 hi vans that I use to make any boring outfit pop a little bit more ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†
